No longer the gringo in latin america...it must all feel kind of normal and quiet in the land of the long white cloud. Congrats on finishing the Gringo Tour, and you broke all the records there. Anna says you have to get your hands on the 'pedallers paradise' booklets and guides for cycling NZ. one is blue the other orange, for the north and south islands. she says you can buy them at bike shops in Auckland. They are a bit like the adventure cyclist assoc. maps in the States, have a lot of backroads, and info about good campspots. she says enjoy, stay clear of the 'road maggots' (campervans), and enjoy the hills! all the best, enjoy Ali and Anna
ps nice rides:
the Queen Charlotte track, top of the south island
the central otago railtrail, from near Queenstown to near Dunedin.
The dirtroad from Queenstown (or actually, you first have to catch an old steamboat across lake wakatipu, and then there is a cool road south, 80 kms of dirt) to the road that connects to Te Anau.
Everything on the Banks peninsula, south of Christchurch.

HI Max,

congrats on finishing the gringo tour. You broke all the records there!!!
Enjoy NZ.
If you're still in Auckland, try and get your hands on two booklets called 'peddallers paradise', for sale in some bikeshops. The have most roads and backroads in them, there is an orange one and a blue one. Also good info about campspots etc.
Some rides I really liked:
Queen Charlotte track, top of the south island
Central Otago Railtrail (from near Queenstown to near Dunedin
Banks Peninsula
St Nicolas Station (opposite Queenstown, you have to get a boat over the lake to get there) there is an 80 km dirtroad south from there, through a valley, that connects with the road to Te Anau.
Enjoy!!
And stay clear of the road maggots (RV's)
