day 067 – day off
getting ready for the flight (brisbane – kuala lumpur – hong kong)
the tour continues on
http://www.lwh.x-sound.at/
not the first, not the fastest, not the longest, not the highest,.... and of course it starts in the middle of something completely different.... so, to use a famous movie quote "Hello, and welcome to 'The Middle of the Film"
labrador – brisbane
80,28km 706 alti meter
when i saw the crack of the bike frame i already thought that i have to send it back home and buy a new one in hongkong, but then i thought i should at least try to find someone who might be able to fix it. so i met craig who was not overly worried about the crack a said he could fix it. he even put his other work aside and half an hour later i was back on the road. thanx craig!
brisbane – surfers paradise
100,78km 835 alti meter
2 flat tires in less then 100km!? the ride to the beach follows mostly the busy highway. brisbane, suburbs and industry centers seem to have merged together. i passed some themeparks (waterworld, movieworld, seaworld,…) all that and tempertures up to 40degrees, gave me some flashbacks to my tour in florida in 2006.
brisbane – day off
google stops their ftp support starting 01.05.2010, so i guess i will not be able to update my blogs after that and have to make a new blog somehow/somewhere… i am really looking forward to get back on the bike again and not having to deal with things like overweight costs and lost functionality of blogs….reversed progress of a global society!?
brisbane – riding around town
31km 283 alti meter
as a cyclist it is a little scary to wake up to the sound of other screaming cyclists. there was a bike race / ride this morning starting at 6.00 o´clock and the cyclists past by yelling “on you right” or “car back”. so i got up to see whats going on. the streets were filles with more or less sportive cyclists.
brisbane – day off
more difficulties along the way…. malaysian airlines wants to charge me 27.-€ per kg overweight. that makes impressive 1100.-€ for 40kg!? alternative airfreight companies would charge about 400.-€ that is still more then my ticket cost and it would take about 5-14days!? so if i would have a passport for my bike, i could almost buy a first class ticket for it and it would still be cheaper!? ;-)
lyttelton – christchurch – brisbane (aus)
mike gave me a ride through the tunnel (no bikes allowed) to christchurch. ewen from basic bikes (basicbikes.co.nz) helped me with the dissembling and servicing the bike before i packed it. it was supposed to rain this morning so i ordered a shuttle to the airport. pazific blue charged me 80.- nz for 8kg of overweight (baggage allowance 20kg – 5kg (overall for a bike, real weight 36kg) – 23kg trailer/bag = - 8kg). dylan picked me up at the airport and i got a sightseeing tour through brisbane on the way to michelle´s & dylan´s house.
